Ddisgrifiad / Description | of Mrs. Beatrice Owen of 80 Mostyn Street, Llandudno, wife of William Owen. W. O. was the son of Edward Owen of Penmynydd, Great Orme, later Pwll y Gwichiad, who established a butcher's business in 1834 and was also a farmer and builder. Contains newspaper cuttings including obituaries of Edward Owen (1892) and William Owen (1914), personal letters, theatre programmes and tickets and certificates. The first part of the book charts the careers of her children, Mary and John Vincent. Mary receives much publicity as a child performer, known as 'Wee Mary Owen', the step-dancer. She also appears in numerous local shows as singer, actress, comedienne and dancer, 1921-1927. In 1927 she is feted as Llandudno's Rose Queen. John Vincent served in the Home Guard during World War II, and the collection includes certificates in connection with this.
The second part of the book concerns William Owen, who was a highly proficient swimmer and yachtsman, and an important local businessman. He had connections with Richard K. Fox, an American millionaire, who was a regular visitor to Llandudno. As well as letters to and articles by W. O. in local newspapers, there are articles about him and the butcher's business, and other members of the family.
