Ddisgrifiad / DescriptionGwen Moffat the mountaineer and author, lived at Maen-y-Bardd cottage in Rowen from 1955-1962, where she wrote her first book. In 1953 she was the only woman to hold the guide certificate of the British Mountaineering Council and became part of the RAF Mountain Rescue Association training airmen. She had been intended to lead the all-women team on the Abingger Himalaya Expedition in 1956 to explore Kalu- Lahal-Spit watershed in the Himalayas, but in the end declined to do so due to her responsibilities as a single parent. In mid-life she retired from professional climbing in order to write crime novels.
