Ddisgrifiad / Description | JW was born in Conwy in 1582. When he was sixteen he went to study at Cambridge. He later became Lord Bishop of Lincoln, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal of England and Archbishop of York, but Bishop Laud turned the Royal Court against him. In 1643, together with other Bishops, he was imprisoned in the Tower under the charge of treason. He returned to Conwy at the outbreak of the Civil War to repair the Castle for King Charles I. When the town was threatened, Archbishop John Williams joined the Parliamentary Army to keep his promise to try to protect the possessions of local people.
