Ddisgrifiad / Description | They arrived in Conwy at 10.55 a.m. where they were met by His Worship, The Mayor of Conwy, Alderman A. Ivor Parry, J.P., who introduced the Mayoress, Mrs. Parry, and the Town Clerk, Arthur L. Ralphes. When the Royal couple arrived it was raining heavily but there was a holiday mood in Conwy, with the streets adorned with flags and bunting and the Union Jack and the Constable's flag fluttering on the Castle's towers. In the King's Tower was a detachment of Sea Cadets of the Colwyn Bay Corps, under the command of Lieut. Gunning R.N.V.R. and they had the honour of breaking the Royal Standard as their Majesties entered Castle Square. Speaking to Mr. William Thomas, Chairman of Llandudno Urban Council, the King asked about the progress of hotel derequisition and he was informed that although there was a steady return to London, there still remained in Llandudno departments of the evacuated Inland Revenue and other Government Offices.
After a presentation had been made, the King and Queen chatted informally for a short while with the Mayor and Mayoress before getting into the Royal car. When they were seated the Town Clerk invited them to sign the Distinguished Visitor's Book.
After they left for Penmaenmawr, festivities in Conwy carried on with sports for the children, a fancy dress carnival and a dance at night.
