Ddisgrifiad / Description | After the original Calvanistic Methodist Chapel at Pant-y-Wenol, Bodafon closed in 1886 to be replaced by the newly built Bethania Chapel, Craig-y-Don, the Calvanistic Methodists/Presbyterians of Penrhynside were left without a place of worship. After a few years the Presbyterians were able to obtain the use of a stable at Penrhyn Old Hall where they held meetings every Sunday, until September 1897 when their own Chapel, Saron was opened. In 1900 the Chapel welcomed its first Minister, The Rev. Evan Hughes, who remained until 1931. During the 1920s, the Chapel together with others in the village faced something of a crisis when the quarries, on which the communities depended so much were closed down. Many men were out of work and left the area taking their families with them and so congregations dropped drastically. In 1923 the Chapel acquired a fine American organ given in memory of three of its younger members who died in World War One.
Since the early 1950s the Chapel membership had varied between twenty five and thirty but for various reasons the number of children dropped drastically after the war and in 1953 it was found necessary to close the Sunday School.
