Ddisgrifiad / DescriptionThe last week of November 1987 saw the Beatification of three Welsh Martyrs of the 16th century along with 80 Englishmen, 1 Scot and 1 poor Irish Priest who was shipwrecked in North Wales and hanged at Ruthin. There was the historic use of the Welsh language from the Papal Altar of St. Peter's Basilica. Welsh had never previously used officially within the Vatican. There were in the congregation 36 Bishops, 300 Priests, most of Rome's Diplomatic Corps and 2,500 pilgrims representing every British Diocese. One of the Welsh Martyrs was William Davies (who died in 1593) who was involved in the secret printing press at Rhiwledyn.
