Ddisgrifiad / Description | This served as the Headquarters of the 15th (First London Welsh) Battalion of the Royal Welch Fusiliers in 1914, when they and the 13th, 14th, 16th and 17th Battalions were trained in the town. Many of these troops were subsequently to be annihilated in the mud of Flanders. Perhaps the most famous of all these was a Private in the 15th Battalion, Ellis Evans of Trawsfynydd. Under the pen name of 'Hedd Wyn', he was announced as the winner of the Bardic Chair at the 1917 National Eisteddfod, a few days after he had been killed at the Battle of Pilckem Ridge involving all five of the Llandudno Battalions.
