Teitl / TitleRappalo House Collection, Llandudno Museum
Ddisgrifiad / DescriptionThe Rappalo House Collection is owned by the Chardon Trust. The Collection is of fine art and local historical items. The Trust wanted to move to The Cottesmore in Gloddaeth Street and the Town Council guaranteed the Trust a £10,000 interest free loan over fifteen years to help buy the property.
Rappalo House and its contents were bequeathed to the people of Llandudno in the [1920s]. High heating and lighting costs coupled with the deteriorating state of the exhibits had forced the move but the house had to be sold as well to pay for the transfer of the contents. A better price was offered if the house could be demolished and replaced by flats, houses or sheltered accommodation.
Aberconwy Development and Works Committee were recommended by their officers to agree in principle to homes being built on the site. It was approved and the building was sold for an estimated £75,000 and the collection was moved and was due to be exhibited in its new home in Gloddaeth Street by the summer of 1986. Rappalo House was still standing in 1986 and had been sold to private owners.
