Ddisgrifiad / Description | These belong to a herd of white Kashmir Goats with magnificent horns. They roam around the interior and frequently cross the Marine Drive in search of new pasture. They are descended from a pair which the Shah of Persia gave to Queen Victoria soon after her Coronation and which grew into the Windsor Royal Herd from which the Royal Welch Fusiliers (23rd Foot) have received their regimental goat since 1844. As Commanding Officer of the Second Battalion of the R.W.F. 1869-1880 and of the Regimental Depot at Wrexham 1880-1885, Major General Sir Savage Mostyn came into posession of a pair of Royal Goats, which, after breeding at Gloddaeth, were turned loose on the Orme towards the end of the nineteenth century. During World War One, an attempt was made to capture some of the goats to provide mascots for several units of the R.W.F. which were being raised in Llandudno but the hunt was abandoned when half of the herd jumped over the cliffs to their deaths.
