Teitl / TitleSketch made in the planning stages of the Llandudno Post Office, Vaughan Street
Ddisgrifiad / DescriptionLlandudno's First Post Office was opened in October 1838 at Greenhill, 18 Old Road. In a Llandudno Town Guide published in 1849 the Post Office is described as being on the streetside of Greenhill. It appears that the Post was carried to and from Conwy by a certain John Hughes. He walked over the sands of the estuary to Llandudno and then did his day's work and then made the return trip.
In 1864 Thomas Williams, who had many business interests in Llandudno, published a Guide Book of the town and surrounding districts and described the Post Office as being in a situation of great convenience at the corner of North Parade and Mostyn Street.
In 1886 it was recorded that the Post Office had moved to Gloddaeth Street. Then in 1904, probably reflecting the growth of the town and the need for a larger Post Office, the present Post Office was opened with a 'dejeuner' given by J. O. Thomas, Esq., J.P., Chairman of Llandudno Urban District Council at the Town Hall on Friday May 10 1904, upon the occasion of the opening of the new Post Office, Llandudno by the Rt. Hon. Lord Stanley.
