Teitl / TitleArchbishop John Williams (1582-1650)
Ddisgrifiad / DescriptionJohn Williams, born at Conway, and educated at St. John's College, Cambridge, was the most famous Welshman of his day. He gained favour under James I, and became Dean of Westminster, Bishop of Lincoln, and Lord Keeper of the Great Seal. He lost favour under Charles I and was imprisoned for a time. Yet Charles sought his advice in the early 1640s and it is said that the Civil War could have been avoided had the advice given been accepted.
