| Ddisgrifiad / Description | He was born at Tyn y Cae, Penmachno. His father was a stonemason and Gethin was brought up in that craft but later on became a carpenter, then a builder and finally a contractor on a fairly large scale. [The viaduct at Dolwyddelan and Betws y Coed Church are his work].
OGJ was also a poet and a local historian, as is shown by his printed Parish Histories of Penmachno, Ysbyty Ifan and Dolwyddelan. He was paralysed at the beginning of 1882 and died on 29 January 1883. In 1884 a volume entitled 'Gweithiau Gethin' was published which included the histories mentioned above and a biographical introduction.
