Ddisgrifiad / DescriptionThe stone built village is the highest in the Conwy Valley and is divided by the river which until 1974 formed the boundary between Caernarfonshire and Denbighshire. The two parts are linked by a little 18th century humped backed bridge with two arches and cut waters. In the 19th century the village had an important Upland Sheep Fair. The village belonged to the Penrhyn Estate and most of its cottages were rebuilt. It has now been transferred to the National Trust. On the Caernarfonshire side, the early 19th century mill has an overshot wheel and the inn stood opposite. A little higher up are the School and Vicarage of 1857 and the single storey Alms Houses of the 1880s, replacing six founded by Captain Richard Vaughan in 1600.
