Ddisgrifiad / Description | Like most of the riverside villages on the lower Conwy, Trefriw used the river as a means of transportation and communication. The river was in past centuries deeper than it is today. Slates, lead, leather and timber were sent down the river to Tal y Cafn or Conwy where they were transferred to larger vessels. In 1809 two new quays were built. In the mid 19th century, large numbers of people travelled by steamer to Trefriw and this continued until the 1950s.
