Ddisgrifiad / Description | This is the town's Parish Church and it is situated on a hill. The original was reconstructed in the 18th century, partly rebuilt and enlarged in 1849 and 1885.
There was a church here in 1253. A chancel was added c. 15th century and was much wider than the 13th century nave. Trancepts were added and at one time it had a rood screen. In 1848 the church was pulled down and rebuilt. The new church was consecrated on the 11 October 1849. Little remains of the old church except a 17th century font, a holy water stoup, the holy table in the vestry and minor monuments of the 17th and thth centuries. There is a pair of old dog tongs and a 19th century Church Warden's account book. Registers date from 1634. The bell has been recast. The old church plate consists of a chalice and cover. The chalice is quite plain with a stort stem and inscribed 'Llanvair Vechan'. The cover is dated 1639. The church was completely renovated and restored in 1976 and the interior was painted and decorated during January 1979.
