Teitl / TitleH. Ogwen Evans, Tailor's Shop
Ddisgrifiad / DescriptionThis business was established in 1870. The shop was a converted boat house by the Tal y Cafn Bridge. Some customers travelled from overseas to be measured and to order clothes from there. As well as having a most unusual setting, it was believed to be the only rural tailors in North Wales where clothes were still hand made. The tiny shop was packed with cloth pattern books and made up suits. This was not how the business started. In the photograph the sign outside says that it was established in 1870 but H. Ogwen Evans's daughter told a North Wales Weekly News reporter that her great grandfather was working in Tyn y Groes before that. When they moved to Tal y Cafn they were working in two old gypsy caravans in the car park of the Tal y Cafn Hotel.
H. Ogwen died in October 1987 aged 78. His daughter, Mrs. G. Ogwen Roberts ran the business under the name of her father.
