Ddisgrifiad / DescriptionWilliam Morris Hughes was born in London. When he was four years old, his mother died and he was sent to live with his aunt in Llandudno who kept an apartment house Bryn Rosa in Abbey Road. He sang in the choir at Trinity Church. He began his schooling first at McLaughlan's School at the corner of Lloyd and Chapel Streets and later at the Grammar School kept by Dr. Roberts, known as Caersalem. An inscribed slate tablet over the blocked up doorway states, 'The Honourable William Morris Hughes Premier of Australia 1916-1923'. He left Llandudno in 1874 for London, then in 1884 he sailed for Australia. He was featured on an Australian postage stamp in 1972.
