Ddisgrifiad / Description | The aircraft on the cliffs above Llyn Dulyn is Douglas C47 Skytrain 43-48473 that crashed on 12/11/44. It was flying from Le Bourget, Paris to Burtonwood near Warrington but had been diverted to RAF Valley due to fog, it was carrying mail and freight. The American Air Force crew were all killed instantly; they were 2nd Lieutenant W.G. Gough, 2nd Lieutenant R.A. Rolfe, Sergeant K.H. McLaren, and Corporal H. Lavitski. The aircraft was not found until 22nd November. There were significant pieces of wreckage still visible in precarious positions on the cliffs until the 1980s when they were removed or dislodged in order to discourage people from trying to reach them.
