Ddisgrifiad / Descriptionfrom Mr. [W] Bishop, Skelton Hall, Staffordshire Potteries to Sir David Erskine, Pwllcrochan, Conway. Mr. Bishop informs Sir David that he has received a message from Mr. Leigh with a letter from Mr. Williams where both parties wish to meet up with Mr. Bishop and Sir David to discuss the lease relating to the [mining of Conway Mountain].
Mr. Bishop has had no response to his proposals sent via Sir David to Mr. Williams [?Thomas Williams Erkine's solicitor] in December. He remarks it is 5 yrs in Dec last since he made his first application to Mr. Owen for a lease of the mountain and he has pursued 'the mineral' with perseverance despite the disappointments and is between four and five hundred pounds out of pocket in his researches. He also remarks on the restrictive clauses and dead rent which Conway Corporation has imposed.
Finally he writes of Mr. Leigh as a 'stranger to Conway' who had been shown where he [Bishop] had been working on the mountain. Bishop had told Leigh of the properties of the 'rock' and made arrangements with him for grinding it but Leigh applied for it himself sheltering his application under the name of 'chert'. According to Bishop the mountain contains no chert. Bishop thinks Leigh will seek an interview with Sir David but hopes that despite his unavoidable absence at the meeting Bishop will be granted the lease.
