Ddisgrifiad / DescriptionLlandudno Cottage Hospital (later the Sarah Nicol Memorial Cottage Hospital, the Llandudno and District Hospital and latterly Llandudno General Hospital).

Llandudno Cottage Hospital was officially opened on 27th June 1881 in a rented house on [Caroline Street (now Avenue)] with a total of eight beds and was largely the result of the good works of Dr. James Nicol, one of the hospitals Honorary Medical Officers and his wife Sarah, the first Lady Superintendent of the hospital. It was quickly recognised that a purpose-built hospital was justified and on 4th September 1884, Lady Augusta Mostyn laid the foundation stone on a plot of land on Trinity Street (cornering on Caroline Street) donated by the trustees to the Mostyn Estate. The new hospital was named the Sarah Nicol Memorial Hospital, in memory of the first Lady Superintendent who had passed away in February 1884. The original hospital was transferred to the new building in May [1885] and the buildings completed for use in 1886, including a wing to be used solely as a Male Convalescent Home. Until 1900, the building was known as the Llandudno Cottage Hospital and Male Convalescent Home. From January 1902, no more convalescent patients were admitted.

By the 1920s the hospital was known as the Llandudno & District Cottage Hospital (Sarah Nicol Memorial). Various alterations and improvements were made to the hospital over the years, but in April 1935 a unanimous resolution was passed to build a new hospital on a six and a half acre site at Maesdu, a gift from the Rt. Hon. Lord Mostyn and Llandudno Town Council. Foundation stones were laid on 15th June, 1938 and on 12th August, 1939, C was officially opened by H.R.H. Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone and her husband, The Right Hon. The Earl of Athlone.

In 1989, Llandudno General Hospital celebrated its Golden Jubilee.
